Bernard J. Knauer, Sr. World War II Veteran Chief Financial Officer Bernard J. Knauer, 92, of Claverack died Sunday , Jan. 9, 2011 in Fort Worth, TX. Born in Baltimore, MD, Dec. 14,1918, he is the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Winkler) Knauer. He is the husband of the late Margaret DaMotta Knauer. Bernard was the Chief Financial Officer of Potash Company of America in NYC. He lived much of his life in Norwalk, CT. In 2000, he and his wife moved to Claverack, NY. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in Washington and the Pacific Theater and was Honorably Discharged in 1945 with the rank of Master Technical Sergeant. In additional to his wife and parents , Bernard was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Edward Knauer and his grandson, Gregory Michael Walsh. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Mary-Elizabeth and John Crane of The Villages, FL, Martha Dudas of Arlington, TX, Bernard and Dee Knauer of Cockeysville, MD, Eileen and Andrew Soltes of New Canaan, CT, Sheila and Ned Keeler of Huron, SD and Margaret-Mary and Richard Welch of New Milford, CT. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and his brother, Richard Knauer of Baltimore, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson, Saturday at 10:00 am. Internment will be in the Cedar Park Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
