Cathleen Alice McGuire

Cathleen Alice McGuire, 72, passed to the heavenly realm on June 19, 2026 following an extended battle with brain cancer. At the time of her death, her identical twin sister Colleen Frances McGuire was at her bedside. Cathleen was born and raised in Oxford, Indiana where she lived until 1972. For most of her life she resided in New York City for 41 years. On July 1, 2024, she relocated to the enchanting red rock country of Moab, Utah, her dream destination, where unfortunately she was only able to reside for one year. On June 2, 2025, Cathleen was diagnosed with glioblastoma. Soon thereafter, on June 30, 2025, she arrived to upstate New York, Columbia County, for alternative treatment, last residing in the village of Philmont. When Cathleen and Colleen were born not even the doctor knew their mother was pregnant with twins because they were spooning in the womb with one heartbeat. It was not until Colleen came out first that the doctor realized Cathleen was in there, too. Their father was calling everyone to say, “My wife had twins!” but no one believed him because Cathleen and Colleen were born on April Fools Day! The twins arrived in 1954, followed by brother Thomas McGuire of Colorado Springs, CO born in 1955, sister Gina McGuire of Moab, UT born in 1957 and sister Tina McGuire Callanan of Walpole, MA born in 1958. Cathleen was predeceased by her parents Thomas David McGuire and Ora Lora Spadafora McGuire. “Cat,” as she was popularly known, lived an exciting life, traveling far and wide to over 50 countries, mostly with Colleen. She was healthy and active before succumbing to cancer – vigorous walks, hiking and cycling, yoga, tennis and pickleball. She was also an intellectual giant penning many articles and essays which appeared online and in books. Once a month she co-hosted a podcast and she organized many forums, rallies and events of social significance. Before retiring, she worked as a content strategist for internet companies, but her true vocation was as an insightful and inspiring palm reader. Cat would want to be remembered as a “truth warrior.” Along with her siblings Tom, Gina and Tina, Cat is survived by Tom’s wife Mary Corbin; as well as Gina’s daughter Alysia and her children Baylie, Taeler and Chayton, and Baylie’s children Kian and Kason and Gina’s husband Greg Chapman and their daughter Karmin Chapman-Wolfrum and Karmin’s husband Morgan Wolfrum and their daughter Trinitey; and finally Tina’s husband Joseph Callanan and their two children Caitlan McGuire Murray and her husband Donald Murray, and their infant child Callan Timothy Murray, and Joseph McGuire Callanan and his wife Shannon Nagle Callanan and their infant child Joseph James (“JJ”) Callanan. Cat is also survived by Colleen’s partner of 28 years, Yiannis Skevis of Greece. Cat was predeceased by her beloved “boys,” Tina’s two black labs -- Magic and Shadow, the love of Cat’s life. We thank the Hospice staff of Columbia County for their exceptional care and attention to Cat’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs. We thank Cat’s spectacular team of five Christian caregivers for their devoted love for and selfless care of Cat: Pamela Alce, Nette Wetmore- Eriksson, Helen Warren, Estelinda Yarden and Robb Schook. A Catholic mass will be held Friday June 26, 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Church, St. Mary’s Parish, 429 E. Allen Street, Hudson, NY. A Sacred Undertaking was held for Cat at the Christian Community Church, Hillsdale, New York where she lay in the Vigil Room from June 19-22. Following the Sacred Undertaking, Cathleen’s body was taken for cremation. In lieu of flowers, Cat requests donations be made to If Americans Knew (www.ifamericansknew.org)
