Camille Dalphond Cognac, a longtime resident of Columbia County, passed away at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson NY, on Monday morning, September 22,2014 after a short illness. She was 67. Camille was born August 27, 1947, in Lowell, MA, a daughter of Willis H. and Gabrielle M. (Dalphond) Cognac. She was raised in Dracut, Mass., alongside four sisters and a brother. After getting her master’s degree in education from SUNY Cortland, she began her professional career as an educator, teaching at multiple grade levels and institutions in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York. In 1986 she opened a quilt restoration and repair shop called “K&K Quilteds” in Hillsdale NY on Route 23. She ran the business from that location for 18 years during which time she also had a book on quilt restoration published and took part in various craft/textile related conferences and shows as a key speaker/contributor. Camille had a passion for learning and knowledge and was constantly researching one topic or another. She served as Town Historian for Hillsdale NY. Her conversation abilities were legendary, and it was not uncommon to hear her talking about wildly varied topics, usually with a smile on her face and an attentive audience. She is survived by 3 sons and two daughters-in-law, Karl and Jennifer Blodgett of Glenmont NY, Daniel Blodgett and Sarah Chartock of Brooklyn NY, and David Blodgett of Craryville NY as well as four grandchildren Gabriel, Sage, Morgan, and Noah. She also leaves behind 2 sisters Louise Henry and Anne Marie DeLuca both of Spring Hill, FL; and brother and sister-in-law, Nelson and Joanna Cognac of Natick, MA. She was preceded in death by 2 of her sisters, Felice Cognac and Rachelle Geisenhainer. A celebration of life will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at the Bates & Anderson Funeral home at 110 Green Street in Hudson NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
