Edward W. Smegoski, 89, of Hudson, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Born December 28, 1924 in Hudson, he was the son of the late John and Frances (Lapinski) Smegoski. Edward served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was employed in the maintenance department at Coxsackie Correctional Facility before retiring. He previously worked as a welder for the Gifford Wood Corp and the V & O Press. Edward was very involved with various community services and the former Sacred Heart Church in Hudson. He was a driver for the Columbia County Health Care Consortium, a member of the Hudson Elks 787, a member of St. Mary's Church in Hudson, and enjoyed gardening. Edward is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Bernadette and Ralph Prata of Tucson, Arizona, his sister, Genevieve Kowalski of Colorado, and his beloved dog, Moses. He was predeceased by his wives, Marcia (Day) Smegoski and Jean (Couse) Smegoski, and four siblings, Josephine Phillips, Celia Schaffer, Jacob Smegoski, and John Smegoski. Visiting hours are 2-6 pm Wednesday at the Bates & Anderson - Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am Thursday at St. Mary's Church, 429 East Allen St., Hudson. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made to the Columbia Greene Humane Society.
