Edward Paul Yasinski, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home, on June 24, 2017. His loving wife of many years, Rita Theresa (Sutty) preceded him in death. Ed was born on July 18, 1927 in Stottville, NY to Marian and Walter Yasinski who were Polish immigrants, and was the youngest of seven children. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1945, where he was a standout athlete in both football and baseball, and served as team captain each year. After his graduation from high school, he served in the U.S. Navy. His athletic talent led him to a pitching career with the Brooklyn Dodgers organization from 1947-1955. When he returned to make his home in Hudson, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier, a job he held until his retirement. His dedication for the game of baseball continued, and he umpired games throughout Columbia County for many years. His hobbies included fishing, carpentry, and following his beloved Mets and Giants. Ed was a humble, gentle man, whose kindness, quick wit, and ability to converse with everyone, endeared him to all who knew him. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Yasinski of Portland, Oregon, Sister-in-law, Eleanor Sutty, Nieces and nephews, William Yasinski (Ann), Patricia Robertson (Joe), Michele Pierro, Louis Pierro (Paula), and several great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Casmir (Bill), John and Frank Yasinski, and sisters, Mary Haggerty, Geneva Pierro, and Stella Bogarski. There will be no calling hours. Graveside services for family and friends will be held Friday, June 30, at 10:00 a.m. at Cedar Park Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bates and Anderson Funeral Home.
