George B. Atkinson

November 16, 1933 - February 14, 2018

George Bliss Atkinson passed away on February 14, 2018. Born on November 16, 1933 in Bridgeport, Ct., George was 84 years old. His parents were Paul S. and Dorothy (Bliss) Atkinson. George graduated from Newton High School and the University of Connecticut, and served his country from 1953 to 1955 in the United States Army. George had a life-long love for farming, acquiring his first cow when he was 16. George married Cynthia (Eaton) Atkinson in 1959, and together they moved to Livingston, NY in 1961 where they started Locust Corner Dairy Farm. They successfully ran the farm for 40 years while raising 3 daughters who George was very proud of. George also ran the “Critter Carrier” animal transport service, which he continued for many years after retiring from farming. Also after retiring from farming, George worked for the Health Care Consortium as a medical transportation driver for 14 years, and created and operated the Stanchion Lamp Co. till his passing. George is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Eaton), his three daughters - Nancy (Michael) Glasgow, Betsy (Richard) Holden, and Darcy (James) Connor; six grandchildren who loved their PaPa- Gabriel Holden, Katelyn (Jordan) Hughson, Kelsie (BJ) Mack, Jency (Eric) Wright, Caroline Connor, and Jameson Connor; almost 4 great-grandchildren, Beau, Kenley, Charlotte, and Elsie (due any day), Sue and Dave Eaton and numerous nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister, Judith (Robert) Keller, Carroll and Marion Eaton. George was known and loved in his community for his infectious smile, his quick wit and ready joke, his caring and generous nature, his love for farming and making new friends, raising tomatoes and spending time with family and friends. Calling hours are 3-6 pm on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Bates & Anderson - Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, Inc. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Linlithgo Reformed Church in Livingston.
