Lewis Henry Mueller, 92, of Hudson, passed away on July 21, 2017 at Columbia Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Germantown, NY on August 23, 1924 to the late William and Mae (Helsey) Mueller. Lewis proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a 1st Class Petty Officer Gunners Mate during World War II aboard the USS LCI(L)-1069 / LCI(R)-1069 and the USS LST – 27. He was a very kind and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them, making them laugh, and being the center of attention with his joking around or singing, which he loved to do. He will forever be in our hearts. He enjoyed going to race tracks, casinos, and watching his NY Yankees. Lewis was committed to helping people and his community. In 1953 he was elected Alderman of the 4th ward and served for 4 years, then elected to supervisor and served for 16 years, where he was elected to serve as Assistant Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. He was on many committees including chairman of the ABC Board, Columbia County Civil Service Commission where he received the Civil Service Commission award, the Hudson Boys Club, where he was honored with the Man of the Year award, The Hudson Republican Party where he was awarded the Abraham Lincoln Award from the Young Republicans Club. He retired from the NY State Assembly in 1979 where he was foreman of the printing department. He owned and operated Mueller’s Grocery for many years and the MGM Market. Lewis was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, the Federation of Polish Sportsman, American Legion, VFW, and a lifetime member of H.W. Rogers Hose Company #2. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 70 years, Hilda (Ogden) Mueller, his children, Gail and Guy Alonge, Carol and Mike Hodowansky, Alan and Barbara Mueller, and Colleen and Charles Melino. His seven grandchildren; Colette (Kevin) Alonge Mackay, Dana (Brian) Alonge Millar, Kimberly (Scott) Hodowansky Boyles, Amy (Jeff) Hodowansky Sessoms, Courtney Mueller Tamburro, A.J. Mueller, and Rocco (Brittany) Melino. His sixteen great grandchildren; Meghan, Nicholas, and Madison Boyles, Morgan, Logan, and Colton Sessoms, Isabella and Ethan Watz, Riley and Siena Millar, Angelina and Mason Tamburro, Olivia and Sophie Mueller, and Rocco Jr., and Stella Melino. Lewis was predeceased by his sisters Kathleen Taylor, Irene Gardinier, Helen Webster, his brother Cecil Mueller, and half - brother James Taylor. Lewis’s funeral service will be from St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 8 Storm Avenue, Hudson, at 11:00 am Thursday July 27, 2017, with Pastor Jonathon Hodges officiating. Entombment will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. Pallbearers will be: A.J. Mueller, Rocco Melino, Ronald Wood, Charlie Webster, Ronald Wood Jr., and William Mueller. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, or to Community Hospice of Columbia and Greene Counties, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill, New York 12414. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the doctors, all of the staff on the 4th floor of Columbia Memorial Hospital, and the Community Hospice of Columbia Greene for their excellent care and support in Lewis’s final days.
