Marguerite E. Gaylord

July 25, 1934 - November 7, 2020

Marguerite E. Gaylord, 86, of Greenport, passed away Saturday November 7, in Ghent, NY. Born July 25, 1934 in Hudson, she is the daughter of Earl and Helen (Shemels) Lyons. Marguerite was a devoted wife of 67 years and caregiver to her husband Ron, loving mother and grandmother. She was the foundation of our family. She happily prepared many Sunday dinners and loved sharing her recipes, especially her macaroni salad and cole slaw. Meals were complete and home-cooked Holiday cooking started the night before. She was always willing and happy to help wherever she could. Before marriage she worked at The Singer Sewing Machine Store in Hudson. While raising their five children she was instrumental in helping Ron with his Surge business by answering the phone, managing the books and radioing him with new service calls. She enjoyed snowmobiling with Ron and friends including on Copake Lake. She enjoyed having lunch or a cup of tea with Janice or a long phone call with Joan. She also assisted Ron when he was building soapbox derby cars for the boys or bringing home ponies or mini-bikes. Later she enjoyed time spent swimming and playing Dukes of Hazard with her grandchildren as well as teaching them manners. Marguerite leaves to cherish her memory, beloved husband Ronald Gaylord, sons Ronald Jr. (Barbara), Mark (Lisa), Brian (Kim), and Kevin (Evelyn) Gaylord, her daughter Kimberly (Paul) Gaylord, grandchildren Ronald III, William Paul, Josh, Jason, Jessica, Laura, Ashley, Emily, and Danielle, great grandchildren, Ainsley, Liam, Colton, Jacob, Jordan, Matthew, and Eliana. She is also survived by her sister Jaqueline Lechner, and sisters in law Joan Lyons and Elizabeth Lyons. Marguerite was predeceased by her brothers Earl and Walter Lyons. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Contributions in memory of Marguerite may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Columbia/Greene Humane Society.
