Richard Boswell, 94, of Hudson, died Friday, October 11, 2019. Born November 30, 1924 in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late Henry Boswell and Agnes (Dougherty) Boswell. Richard served in WWII under General George S. Patton in the 47th Armored Infantry Battalion, 5th Armored Division, 3rd U.S. Army. He was wounded in the Battle of the Huertgen Forest on November 19, 1944 and awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and many other medals for his service. Richard grew massive vegetable gardens every summer and took great pride in providing his family and neighbors with tomatoes and a variety of vegetables. He was the happiest when he was on his tractor brush hogging or plowing up a field. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and an avid Farmall Tractor enthusiast. Richard was even featured in an issue of “Red Power” magazine along with an article about his life with photos of himself and his tractor collection. He became a first-time grandfather at the age of 80. His granddaughter, Molly, was the light of his life. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vera (Barton) Boswell; his daughter, Jill Delaney her husband, Joseph, and his granddaughter, Molly Delaney. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Henry “Buddy” Boswell and his sister, Elaine Hayes. His family cannot thank enough, the wonderful staff and residents of Whittier Nursing Home who were so kind and gave him such wonderful care. Richard’s life was so much more than what can be summed up in a few paragraphs. He will forever be in our hearts. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 18th at 1:00 pm from Bates & Anderson - Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in the Churchtown Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:30 am from the funeral home. Donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
