Beauty Lee Watson

Beauty Lee (Devero) Watson, 93, was given back to our heavenly father as a result of a long illness, 09/14/2026. A longtime resident of Hudson, NY. Beauty was well known throughout the community for her vibrant spirit, her deep devotion to those she loved, and the joy she brought to everyone around her. The daughter of Horace and Julia B. (Butts) Devero, Beauty was born July 7, 1933, in Johnston County, North Carolina (near the city of Wendell). She was reared in West Palm Beach, Florida and Milledgeville, Georgia. Beauty spent her formative years assisting her mother with chores, working on local farms and spending time with her siblings. She attended the historical all black/colored Eddy High School located in Milledgeville, Ga. At the age of 18, Beauty married Johnny C. (J.C.) Watson and eventually as part of the Great Migration relocated to Hudson. Together they raised eleven children and are blessed with a host of descendants. Upon settling down in Hudson, Beauty continued her education and obtained a General Equivalency Degree through the Life Skills Program offered at Columbia – Green Community College. She was employed as a floor worker at the Hudson Knitting Mill from 1962 thru 1972. Beauty also held positions with the Mohawk Novelty Company (aka: The Pocketbook Factory), Hudson Correctional Facility and State Department of Taxation of Finance at Albany, NY. She valued her community highly and often participated in events that were organized to help others during challenging moments. Beauty is credited with being one of the original members of the Mitchlettes Gospel Singers. Beauty L. Watson is survived by her daughters, Patricia Watson, and Wanda Watson; sons, Jay (Connie) Watson and Julius Watson; sister, Anna L. Smith and a host of extended family members and friends. Beauty was predeceased by her husband; Johnny C. Watson, sons; William Watson, Johnny Watson Jr, and Jeffrey Watson; daughters, Emily Watson, Barbara Watson-Twiggs, Bernice Watson-Burgess, and Julia Watson; parents Horace Devero and Julia B. Jackson; step father Robert E. Jackson; brothers, Curtis Devero, Horace Devero Jr., and William Devero; sister, Mary Preston; parent in-laws, JW and Essie B. Watson Beauty will forever be remembered for her quiet strength, compassion and her incredible zest for life. She sincerely found joy in family gatherings, holidays, birthdays, cooking her delicious fried chicken, playing “BINGO”, hosting backyard barbecues and especially listening to music. Most of all, Beauty loved her husband, absolutely adored her precious children and was grateful for each and every one of her descendants. A viewing will commence at the Cedar Park Cemetery, Section 9G (near the pond) located in Hudson, NY at “precisely” 12:30pm to 1:00pm on Friday, 09/18/2026. A graveside service and burial will assemble at the Cedar Park Cemetery, Section 9G (near the pond) located in Hudson, NY at “precisely” 1:00pm to 1:30pm on Friday, 09/18/2026.
