Kenneth Andreas Huber

Kenneth Andreas Huber, 78, of Ghent, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2011 at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Ken was born July 11,1932 in Brooklyn NY to Johanna (Miller ) and Frederick Huber. In 1949 his family moved away from the city to Spencertown, NY, where they owned and operated a dairy farm. In 1950 Ken graduated from Chatham High School . In 1953 the family bought another dairy farm and moved to West Ghent NY . Ken joined the US Navy serving from 1953 until 1957. He was aboard the USS New Jersey, and served in the Military Police. He returned home and continued farming with his brother Fred. On November 26,1960 he married Elizabeth "Bonnie" McNamara . They were married 50 years . In 1975, after selling the dairy farm, Ken and his brother Fred attended school in Syracuse NY for Drafting and Engineering. Ken worked For Albany Design Co, and Newman and Doll where he served as Clerk of The Works for the Hudson Urban Renewal Project. He was also employed as Superintendent of Callanan Industries . In 1987 joined the Eddy Northeast Health Foundation as the Director of Construction . He was instrumental in building The Heritage House in Troy, The Cohoes Rehabilitation Center and The Beverwyk Retirement Community. He retired from Northeast Health in 2005. He is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Elizabeth Bonnie Huber; four devoted daughters, Kathleen (James) Gorman, Kim Huber, Karen (Ricardo) Gonzalez, and Kendra Huber; his brother and friend, Frederick (Barbara ) Huber of West Ghent; five loving grandchildren, Kristin Gorman, Kenneth Gorman, Kevin Gorman, Kadrian Laporte, Shonte' Walker; three great- grandchildren, Kasey Moore, Kolyn Gorman, and Klaudia Vitale; his brothers in-law and sister-in-laws (and friends ), John (Susan) McNamara of Virginia Beach, William (Bettylou) McNamara of Stottville, Donald (Arlene) Tillson of Hudson, and Denise (Kim) Douglas of Claverack, several nieces and nephews, Heidi Huber Grandinetti, Peter Huber, James McNamara, Susan McNamara Leyes, Elizabeth McNamara, Raymond Johnson, Todd Tillson, Ryan Scalera, Nathan Scalera, Susan Rothe, Barbra Schaal, and Joanne Ehmer, his life long best friend, Jim Heintz (Marcy) and his God-daughter, Gina Gismondi. Ken loved to travel, visiting Germany, Austria, Ireland, England ,Scotland , Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Las Vegas ,San Francisco, and also enjoyed many cruises. He loved to play and watch golf and the hi lites of his golf interest was attending the AT&T Classic at Pebble Beach, the Masters at Augusta and the Ryder Cup in Michigan. He was a voracious reader, our Jeopardy Champion, our Go to Person for everything! A Good Husband , Father, Brother , and Friend. A Good Man. Our family sends a special thank you to Dr George Davis, Janice McGlaughlin, Gregor MacDonald and Adessa Rice (Hospice) for their compassion and caring ways. Visiting hours are 4:30 - 7 pm Tuesday at the Bates and Anderson - Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green St., Hudson. Services will be conducted at 6:30 pm at the funeral home.
